Reduced size of Dairy Milk blocks: 250g now 200g for the same cost

To the Manager of Consumer Services,
I recently purchased a block of Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate from Coles. I noticed straight away that the packaging was different – generally a sign that the manufacturer has decided to give its customers less product for their money. I took the block home to compare with a block I had purchased earlier and sure enough, the new block is 50g smaller in size.
This means there has been a 20% reduction in the amount of chocolate consumers get in a block of Cadburys, while the cost remains exactly the same.
I am disappointed that a brand I used to trust is treating it’s customers in this way. Why should we be loyal to Cadburys if Cadburys are so disrespectful towards its customers?
According to Reuters UK:
“The London-based group [Cadburys] posted 2008 pretax profits of 559 million pounds ($814 million), in line with an analyst range of 525 million to 580 million and compared to a consensus of 552 million. Earnings per share rose 30 percent to 29.8 pence.
“In the current market environment, we find it unlikely that there are many companies continuing to grow earnings at these enhanced levels … and also doing it consistently, which Cadbury should over the next few years,” said Andrew Wood at Bernstein.”
How about using some of this money to go back to producing the 250g blocks that all Cadbury customers deserve?

As an aside…
- Cadbury’s has pulled down the images of their blocks of chocolate from the site. I wonder why?
- It is virtually impossible to find a decent sized image of Cadbury’s products on the web. I am sure this is because they don’t want consumers to be able to challenge them every time they reduce the size of their products!
