NAMASTE

“The spirit in me respects the spirit in you.”

This greeting in Sanskrit has many interpretations but was described to me by my Yoga teacher as ‘The Divine in me meets the Divine in you’. It is a way to greet each other as equals and with respect.
Namaste includes a spiritual significance of negating or reducing one’s ego in the presence of another.

“Nama” means bow, “as” means I, and “te” means you. Therefore, Namaste literally means “bow me you” or “I bow to you.” It is accompanied by a gesture that is an acknowledgment of the soul in one, by the soul in another, of the hands pressed together as if in prayer and touched softly to the forehead with the head slightly bowed.
